Course Description

This course develops the learner’s Arabic phonetics specifically for reciting the Qur’an. It welcomes both complete beginners in Tajweed (who can already read Arabic) and those with some prior knowledge, aiming to build their confidence in Qur’an recitation and ensure they feel supported and valued throughout their progress.

Students will study some rules of Tajweed, have an opportunity to implement them in their Qur’an reading, and learn to recite some surahs by rote in a supportive setting. Students are encouraged to turn on their camera when reciting to the teacher to foster engagement and confidence.

Duration:
10 weeks (30 hours in total), 3 hours each lesson

Level: Level 1

Status: Compulsory for all students who wish to learn how to recite the Qur’an correctly.

Prerequisites: The ability to read Arabic and study Introduction to Arabic and Tajweed, or its equivalent.

Progression: Tajweed Level 2 – Applying the Rules of Recitation

Course Plan

1. Theory: Introduction to Tajweed; Etiquettes of Qur’an recitation; Basmalah;
   Makhaarij (pronunciation)
   Practice: pronunciation of the Arabic Alphabet with the correct Makhaarij
   Memorisation: Surah al-Fatihah
2. Theory: Makhaarij
   Practice: pronunciation of the Arabic Alphabet with the correct Makhaarij
   Memorisation: Surah al-Nas
3. Theory: Recap of makahrij
   Practice: Pronunciation of letters
   Memorisation: Surah al-Falaq
4. Theory: Ghunnah of Nun and Meem Mushaddad
   Practice: Implementation of Ghunnah of Nun and Meem Mushaddad
   Memorisation: Surah al-Ikhlas
5. Theory: Qalqalah
   Practice: Implementation of Qalqalah
   Memorisation: Surah al-Masad
6. Theory: Rule of Laam in Allah’s name
   Practice: Implementation of the rule of laam in Allah’s name
   Memorisation: Surah al-Nasr
7. Theory: Rules of raa
   Practice: Implementation of the rule of Raa in Allah’s name
   Memorisation: Surah al-Kafirun
8. Theory: recap of all rules covered
   Practice: Implementation of all rules covered so far
   Memorisation: Surah al-Kawthar
9. Theory: recap of all rules covered
   Practice: Reading with all the rules covered to date
   Memorisation: Surah al-Ma’un
10. Theory: recap of all rules covered
    Practice: Reading with all the rules covered to date
    Memorisation: Surah Quraysh
11. Theory: Revision of all rules covered to date
    Practice: implementation of all rules covered
    Memorisation: Surah al-Fil
12. Assessment

Students will be assessed at the end of the course.
