Course Description

This spoken Arabic course is for beginners. This course will not focus on language but rather help students learn different phrases and provide an environment where they can immerse themselves in the language. The main aim of this course is to equip students with basic phrases across a range of topics, enabling them to converse in Arabic at a minimum standard. No prior experience is needed, making it accessible and encouraging for all interested learners.

Prerequisite

There is no prerequisite for Arabic in this course; however, basic reading and writing skills will be required, as students will need to go away and memorise words, phrases, and idioms. Students will be taught a variety of phrases, sentences, and discussions that they can use daily at home, at work, and abroad, in a supportive setting designed to help them succeed.

Duration:

10 weeks long – 1.5 hours per class

• How to greet others and introduce yourself
• How to ask basic questions and then reply
• How to describe your family members and what they do
• How to describe your home
• How to speak about your daily routine
• How to speak about your meals and the foods you like
• How to converse about prayers and prayer times
• How to speak about school and studies
• How to say the time in Arabic
• How to converse about your job
• How to speak about shopping and how to buy things
• How to describe the weather
• How to speak about people and places
• How to speak about hobbies and pastimes
• Conversation you may have whilst on a journey
• How to speak about Hajj and Umrah
• How to count objects and practical applications for knowing the numbers
• How to speak about health and illness
• How to speak about holidays and foreign places
• A vocabulary list of approximately 600 words

Assessment
Students will be assessed through practical speaking exercises and participation throughout the course.

Course Delivery
This course will be delivered via an online live streaming platform called ‘Zoom’. Further details, including login instructions, will be emailed to students 5 days before the course begins.

Course Materials
Course materials and notes will be provided to students in PDF format five days before the course commences.
