Course Description

Level 1 of EC’s comprehensive Arabic Intensive Modular programme. The programme incorporates modern and classical Arabic as well as grammar, designed to help students access the language of the Quran and Hadith with confidence. Students seeking a focused, meaningful study of Arabic should consider completing the full programme comprising 9 modules.

Who is it for?

You must be able to read the Qur’an fluently to study this course. Committing to 3 hours of contact time per week and at least 3 hours of personal study demonstrates your dedication. Students who cannot read Arabic should join the Introduction to Arabic & Tajweed course.

Duration:
12 weeks (36 hours in total)

3 hours each lesson

Prerequisites:
Introduction to Arabic and Tajweed course.

Progression:
Students who complete this may progress to Arabic Intensive Modular – Level 2.

Course Brief
The topics below will be covered in conjunction with tailor-made worksheets and quizzes to help students apply their knowledge of the grammar concepts and develop a broad vocabulary:

Topics in Nahw (Arabic Syntax)

• Important terms relevant to the study of al-Nahw
• The sun and moon letters
• The singular, dual and plural
• The Masculine and the Feminine nouns
• Definiteness of nouns
• The Arabic sentence: nominal and verbal
• The modifiers of the nominal sentence
• The Mafoo’lat (details) of the verbal sentence
• The I’raab of all pillars

Topics in Sarf (Arabic morphology)

• Important terminology relevant to the study of Sarf
• The classification of verbs
• Forms (abwab); the 6 forms of the simple triliteral
• The perfect active positive verb from simple triliteral roots
• The perfect active positive verb from derived triliteral forms
• The active and passive, positive and negative forms of the past tense verb
• The Masdar and the derived nouns

Course Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

• The topics outlined in the course contents above.
• Vocabulary and common Arabic terminology provided in worksheets.

Skills and Application:

• Confidently initiate and engage in basic written and verbal dialogue in Arabic using the acquired vocabulary and grammar.
• Use an Arabic dictionary effectively.
• Read, apply vowels correctly, understand, and translate basic Arabic prose into English.
• Translate basic prose from English to Arabic.

Assessment
Students will be assessed at the end of the course.

This course is offered on-site or online, providing flexibility to suit your needs. When registering, please choose your preferred option/platform. Please note that both options may not be available in the same term.
