ARÖMER Arabic Intensive in Collaboration with Ebrahim College

Set out on a life-changing journey to study Arabic in the ARÖMER summer course, the International Arab Center for Education, Applications, and Research.

What Type of Course Is It?

The ARÖMER Arabic Intensive Programme is a fully immersive course designed to develop real fluency in conversational Arabic.

From the very beginning, students are immersed in the Arabic language. Grammar is taught in Arabic, meaning you learn the structure of the language through the language itself. This natural and immersive approach accelerates understanding, builds confidence, and enables students to think and respond in Arabic – rather than translating in their minds.

The core focus of the programme is spoken fluency and verbal communication. Lessons are interactive and practical, equipping students with the ability to hold conversations, express opinions, ask questions, and communicate effectively in real-life situations.

Our teachers are native Arabic speakers who specialise in teaching Arabic to non-native learners. They create a supportive yet challenging environment that pushes students to actively use the language every session.

Alhamdulillah, many of us learn to read the Qur’an in Arabic, and some go on to study grammar to understand classical texts. However, opportunities to develop spoken Arabic proficiency are often limited. This programme fills that gap.

ARÖMER offers a unique opportunity to move beyond passive understanding and develop confident, articulate spoken Arabic – so that the language becomes something you live and use, not just something you study.

Who is It For?

This programme is open to learners at all levels – from complete beginners to those with prior experience in Arabic.

It is particularly beneficial for students of knowledge who have studied Arabic grammar and classical texts but wish to strengthen their spoken proficiency and develop greater fluency in conversation.

Students are carefully assessed and placed into small groups according to their level. This ensures that each class is appropriately paced and tailored to the needs of its students, allowing for focused development, meaningful interaction, and steady progress in a supportive learning environment. The level of proficiency achievable will depend on the level of Arabic that the student has at the start of the course.

As progression depends on entry level and individual performance, please note that it may take around three hundred hours of study to master tourist level conversational Arabic for absolute beginners.

About ARÖMER

ARÖMER, founded a decade ago at the Turkish May 29th University in Istanbul by a professor of Jordanian origin specialised in teaching Arabic language. ARÖMER has attracted outstanding talents from Egypt, Syria, Morocco and Algeria. ARÖMER Curriculum and Levels

A1

Level A1 – Beginner (Basic User)

Level Description

At Level A1, learners begin their Arabic language journey by acquiring fundamental literacy skills and basic communicative abilities. The focus is on familiar everyday expressions and simple sentence structures related to immediate needs.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this level, learners can:

  • Recognise and accurately pronounce Arabic letters and basic sound patterns.
  • Use common greetings and basic expressions.
  • Understand and produce simple sentences related to personal information.
  • Read and write basic words and short sentences.

Core Competences

  • Listening: Understand very basic words and expressions when speech is slow and clear.
  • Speaking: Introduce oneself and others using simple structures.
  • Reading: Identify familiar names, words, and basic signs.
  • Writing: Write short phrases and simple personal information.

Level Objectives

  • Establish foundational Arabic literacy.
  • Build learner confidence in basic communication.
  • Prepare learners for structured language development at higher levels.

Level A1 Guide

At the end of Level A1, students are expected to complete the following tasks and requirements:

Course Materials

  • Study all information and complete all exercises in the textbook.
  • Review and learn all explanations and exercises written and explained by the teacher in class.

Thematic Dictionary Assignment

  • Complete the ARÖMER Thematic Dictionary Assignment according to Level A1.
  • Memorise the given words.
  • Use each word in a simple Arabic sentence.
  • Translate the example sentences into Turkish or English.

Film Vocabulary Task

  • Select 350 words from the Level A1 film word lists.
  • Write the selected words in the provided form.

Audio Recording

  • Record audio of all texts in the book with correct pronunciation.
  • Submit the recordings as audio files to the interview committee.

Presentation

  • Prepare a 3-minute presentation on Level A1 topics.
  • The topic will be chosen by drawing lots.
  • One redraw is allowed if requested.

Reading Speed Assessment

  • Read aloud the required number of words in one minute, as determined for Level A1.

Writing with Arabic Keyboard

Exercises and Homework

  • Complete all exercises in the book and present them to the committee.
  • Study all worksheets (أوراق العمل) given by teachers.

A2

Level A2 – Elementary (Basic User)

Level Description

At this level, learners expand their basic knowledge of Arabic and are able to communicate in simple routine situations involving familiar topics and direct information exchange.

Learning Outcomes

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand frequently used expressions related to everyday contexts.
  • Communicate in simple tasks requiring basic information exchange.
  • Read short texts and write simple paragraphs.

  • Listening: Understand expressions related to daily activities and needs.
  • Speaking: Describe personal background and daily routines.
  • Reading: Understand short and simple texts.
  • Writing: Write brief notes, messages, and descriptive paragraphs.

Learners at Level B1 can use Arabic independently in familiar social, academic, and professional contexts. They are able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters.

Learners can:

  • Understand the main ideas of texts on familiar topics.
  • Produce connected spoken and written discourse.
  • Manage most situations encountered in Arabic-speaking environments.

Core Competences

  • Listening: Understand the main points of clear spoken Arabic.
  • Speaking: Participate in discussions on familiar topics.
  • Reading: Understand straightforward factual texts.
  • Writing: Produce coherent texts describing experiences and opinions.

Level Objectives

Level B1 Guide

At the end of Level B1, students are expected to complete the following tasks and requirements:

Arabic Language Programme based on the CEFR Framework

Programme Overview

The International Arabic Center for Education, Implementation and Research (ARÖMER) offers a comprehensive Arabic language program designed in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The program is structured across six progressive proficiency levels (A1–C2) and is delivered to various institutions, organizations, and individuals according to their linguistic, academic, and professional needs.

ARÖMER’s curriculum emphasizes balanced development of the four core language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while integrating linguistic accuracy, communicative competence, and cultural awareness. Includes tuition, course materials and admission fee for the ARÖMER Arabic Intensive Programme. Accommodation2 and meals are not included.

Optional Add-ons:

  • Induction Week – £225: An additional preparatory week designed to help students settle in and familiarise themselves with the environment. The week includes accommodation, transport and guided visits to the European side for orientation, the Old City and Eyüp Sultan, as well as a day trip to Bursa and Söğüt. Students will also visit key libraries, bookshops, and relevant institutions.
  • Accommodation shuttle bus (applicable for female Package 1 applicants only) – £50: A shuttle bus operates between the female accommodation and University campus, departing from the dormitory in the morning and returning after classes.
  • University Lunch (applicable for Package 2 applicants only) – £140: Access to lunch at the University on weekdays. Please note: Package 1 already includes lunch.

Gender Policy & Dorms Regulations

General information: The male dormitories consist of containers that are conveniently located on campus, offering residents easy access to university facilities.

 Please also note the following:

  1. Accommodations will consist of 4-person dormitories.
  2. Each room will be equipped with essential amenities, including a mini refrigerator, comfortable beds, and fresh linens.
  3. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner to be provided. Note that on Sundays, only breakfast and dinner will be served.
  4. Complimentary laundry services twice a month during your stay.
  5. Unlimited Internet service to be provided.
  6. Dedicated study halls are available for focused studies.
  7. Staff will perform cleaning duties twice a week to ensure a clean and comfortable environment.
  8. Kindly adhere to designated entry and exit times, ensuring arrival at the dormitory no later than 23:30 in the evening.

What is the registration process?
  • To apply, please complete the application form. You will be booked for a test over Microsoft Teams with one of the teachers at ARÖMER.
Is the course certified
  • Yes, the course is certified by 29 May University ARÖMER.
How much spending money do I need
  • As the accommodation is provided on a full-board basis, students will only require spending money for personal or non-essential purchases, if desired. We recommend budgeting approximately £10 per day.
Will there be examinations at the end of the course?
  • Yes, there will be exams and tests at the end of the course
Do I need to know any Turkish?
  • No, there is no need to know any Turkish to attend the course
What is included in the accommodation?

Are the classes mixed?
  • Yes, the classes are mixed but a modesty and seating policy similar to that adhered to in Ebrahim College will be implemented, allowing both male and female students to learn in an appropriate and positive environment.
What is the minimum age requirement to join the course?
  • Students must be a minimum of 16 years to join the course.
What will the induction week include?

Admission Process

Stage 1: Complete application, course admission fee payment and flights and transport fee payment (if applicable).

Stage 2: After the application deadline on 31 May 2026, applicants will complete payment of the remaining fees. Each applicant will be interviewed by the teachers at ARÖMER over Microsoft Teams after completing their registration and then admitted to the correct level of course.
